Application Process

Currently, Media Arts is accepting applications for grades 6 through 12 for the 2023-24 school year, as well as for the upcoming lottery for the 2024-25 school year. After submitting the application for the current school year, you will be notified to complete the registration process. You will then need to submit transcripts and/ or grades, shot records, and birth certificate with your completed Registration Packet in order to fully register at Media Arts.

Steps for the Lottery Process at NMAMA

Each year, as per state regulations, admission to public charter schools is done by a lottery process. Learn more about lottery regulations.

Current NMAMA students are automatically entitled to enroll the following year without participating in the lottery. Siblings of currently enrolled students have priority for admission, subject to space availability, but must complete the New Enrollment Packet.  Remember, if a current NMAMA student withdraws before the 40th day of the school year, the student’s sibling will lose preference.

The lottery does not guarantee admission, but determines preference in filling available spots. Once a grade level is filled, any remaining names are placed on a waiting list for that school year in the order in which their names were drawn in the lottery.

Lottery drawing results will be posted by April 15. Visit our website to view the list. The list will be posted once, and will not be updated. If you need information, call us at (505) 243-1957.

Important Lottery Dates—2024-25 School Year

APRIL 8 – Lottery Closes.

APRIL 15 – Lottery Results Posted.

APRIL 30 – Deadline to Accept Enrollment Spot. You must call and accept the spot by this date or your application will be marked as declined.

Note:

• Siblings are given priority in the lottery process, but are still required to fill out an application for each child in your family. There is no guarantee of admission for siblings if there are no openings in the grade for which you have applied.
• NMAMA does not carry over lottery applications from one year to the next. The lottery begins anew every year in January.
• NMAMA keeps the lottery waitlist, and continues to seat students on the waitlist until December. After December, the waitlist closes.
• If NMAMA calls and emails a family with an available spot, the family has 48 hours to respond. Lack of correspondence by the family with NMAMA within the 48 hour timeframe results in forfeiture of the enrollment spot and your application is placed at the bottom of the waitlist if requested).
• The date the application is received has no bearing on the lottery pull.
• NMAMA is an equal opportunity provider and employer.

The following documents are required to secure your place at NMAMA once your student is accepted in the lottery drawing:

1. Birth Certificate
2. Immunization Record
3. Middle School – Most recent report card, iMSSA (interim Assessment) scores for Math and ELA
4. High School – Most recent unofficial transcript/attendance record (credit analysis)
5. IEP/504/SAT/BIP (if applicable)
6. Any Legal Documents – custody, name change, etc. (if applicable)

Call (505) 243-1957 or email cclyne@nmmediaarts.org to be placed at the bottom of the waitlist. NMAMA will refer to the waitlist until December to fill available seats.

Be ready to provide the school with the Student’s First and Last Name, DOB, current grade, current school, Parent(s) Name(s), and a good contact phone number.
